Story 1 – Anthony Flannagan
Anthony Flannagan successfully completed his CSCS course in June 2013 at The Works, Moss Side. After receiving his CSCS card, which was fully funded and completing the CSCS Construction Academy, Anthony had the confidence and motivation to seek employment in his specialised field. Within a short period of job searching, Anthony was selected to join a construction team, IMS Brickwork, and was contracted to help build and erect 32 apartments at Didsbury Point.
Story 2 – Dwaine Lindsey
Dwaine Lindsey is another success story from The Works, Moss Side where with his funded CSCS card he was able to pursue a career in construction and achieve his ambition. The support and guidance during his 4-week training encouraged him to apply his knowledge and skills into his desired field of work. Soon enough, a team member from The Works referred him to the Birley Fields Construction Project (in collaboration with The Works), run by Sir Robert McAlpine. After his interview, Dwaine was selected to join the team of workers and is now contracted till early 2014, where he will be part of a multi-million pound development, constructing a new academic campus on Stretford Road, Manchester.

A DYSLEXIC Birmingham man has laid the foundations for new career with the help of Next Step and Phoenix Training. Thomas Beasley, from Selly Park, took the first step into his new life after visiting Next Step advisers at Phoenix Training in August last year, after being out of work for seven months. The 52-years-old wanted to improve his prospects for a career in construction by obtaining qualifications through the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS). After attending an open day he enrolled on a Basic Skills Course as he felt this would help him to complete the CSCS training, which is mainly theory-based. He was guided through the work by Phoenix’s staff and five months on Thomas finds himself full-time employment working as construction assistant for Birmingham City Council. ” This is the best job I have had in years. I really wanted to work in construction but my dyslexia meat the theory -based exams were difficult.”
